Kitchen Remodeling and Screen Porch Addition – A Case Study

ALC Contractors recently completed a kitchen remodeling and home addition project in The Orchards in Baltimore. The homeowner wanted a major kitchen remodel, and to increase their outdoor living space with a screen porch they could use in comfort three seasons out of the year.

Our design build team met with the homeowners to go over their ideas, and turned them into reality, all while keeping the project on time and on budget.

Check out the before pictures of the kitchen – while a decent kitchen, the cabinets, flooring and countertops, as well as appliances were all dated. We did a complete tear out and new installation, adding:

  • New 3 ¼” red oak hardwood flooring
  • Cambria engineered stone countertops, Berwyn design
  • A new island
  • Tile backsplash
  • Homecrest cabinets in Dover Maple, Alpine Opaque finish/color
  • New lighting
  • Monogram high end stainless steel appliances
  • Gas range and range hood vented to the outside
  • Double oven
  • Enlarged the entryway to the dining room

For the deck and screen porch addition, we removed the old stairs and built a cascading staircase that leads from the porch and the house, and installed the screen porch addition, being careful to match the roof and style to the existing home. We used SCREENEZE to install the screen, and used Azek decking, The porch is easily accessible from the kitchen as well as the patio.

The clean lines of the railing allow maximum light and air to flow through the porch. The addition of a ceiling fan and beaded ceiling complete with recessed lighting ensure the new porch addition will be a gathering place at all times of day or night, enjoyable on all except the coldest days.
